What causes Shingles?  You may have had or have, or know someone who has or had shingles.   Typically, but not always, shingles affects older people and /or people with weakened immune systems. Shingles is a virus known as the “varicella zoster virus.” It is by far one of the most painful pathologies known to medicine.

If you have ever had “chicken pox,” you are at risk for shingles since they are the same virus, which resides in the spine until such time, if ever, it decides to rear its ugly head as shingles.

Many times shingles will begin as pain in a localized area of the body, usually the back or side, and sometimes the head.  Most people who do get shingles will recover, and may never have it again.

Did you know that you can use acupuncture and Chinese herbs to make your recovery remarkably shorter than normal, as well as do no harm?

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Doctors were responsible for keeping the residents of the village from getting sick. If a person got sick, they were unable to support the doctor. The doctor’s job was to be proactive with acupuncture and Chinese herbs and not wait until they were sick.

We think much differently today.  Not just with shingles, but many other conditions, we wait until we have symptoms to visit the doctor. The trouble is that oftentimes, the western medical approach is “drug it, burn it, or cut it out.” Don’t misunderstand me, we appreciate our western medicine. Thank God it is there when we need it!!

But we also feel it neccessary to take care of our bodies and use proactive health measures in order to enjoy optimal health. Acupuncture, Chiropractic, therapeutic massage, rolfing, reflexology, pharmaceutical-grade nutritionals, etc., are all examples of being proactive with our health.

“Waiting until you are sick before going to the doctor is a bit like waiting until you are thirsty to dig a well!”

Can I dig a well before I am thirsty?

Yes! Be proactive.  Regular acupuncture treatments with herbs will give you an advantage in keeping your body in balance.  The modern lifestyle of our world is a breeding ground for STRESS, and stress is the #1 Killer according to many studies.

Prevention Options

  • Get enough sleep
  • Consume live food regularly
  • Exercise (do something you enjoy doing)
  • Routine Acupuncture
  • Chinese herbs
  • Pharmaceutical-grade nutrirional supplements
  • Pay attention to the small messages from your body
  • Learn to play and relax. Do something you love everyday

Manage your emotions, or your body may seek to get your attention.

Questions to ponder, ask your heart not your head.

  1.  Are you waiting for something bad to happen in your life?
  2. Do I have a lack of peace in a specific area of my life?
  3. Do you believe the best will come into your life?
  4. How much fear do you have to battle in your daily life?
  5. Can you become oversensitive easily?
  6. Do you feel as if you are always fighting just to stay afloat?
  7. Are you tense?
  8. Do you struggle with feelings of unworthiness?

Remember to slow down and smell the roses.  Our bodies want to stay balanced.

Did you know that our organs have specific emotions?

When your body is out of balance, you can struggle to release painful thoughts.  Acupuncture keeps our organs happy, and happy organs create healthy bodies.

If you are reading this blog post then you may be seeking for yourself or someone else some options on treating shingles.

There was a study done for treating shingles and the results for the true acupuncture group had an effective rate of 94% and the drug group had an effective rate of 86%.  Click here  to read the study.

Acupuncture reduces stress!

According to the American Psychological Association, chronic stress is linked to the six leading causes of death: heart disease, cancer, lung ailments, accidents, cirrhosis of the liver and suicide. And more than 75 percent of all physician office visits are for stress-related ailments and complaints. Mar 21, 2014

If you have an outbreak……,

or think you might have shingles, get an appointment with an Acupuncturist as soon as you can.  Typically, shingles will begin as pain in a localized area of the body, usually the back or side, and sometimes the head.  The sooner you start the healing process the faster you will heal.

Side affects from shingles

“Post-herpetic” neuralgia.  This is very painful.  Acupuncture will help reduce the pain significantly after the outbreak.  Shingles nerve pain is one of the most painful pathologies a person can experience

Will I have to take the herbs forever?

No! You can expect to take the herbs  “Chuan Xin Lian” and “Long Dan Xie Gan Wan” from 4 to 6 weeks depending on your health.  The herbs suppress the virus and keep it from breaking out.  Taking Pharmaceutical-grade nutritional supplements will add great benefit to your body bu keeping your immune system strong and able to fight off these types of conditions.

You can take charge

Acupuncture and Chinese herbs can work together with western medical drugs prescribed for post-herpetic neuralgia.  There are no contradictions with TCM and western medicine.  If you don’t feel comfortable with solely using acupuncture and herbs, you can add them to your western medicine protocol.  It will speed your recovery.
