Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Does it hurt?

This is one of the most frequently asked questions when a new or potential client calls or visits our facility. The answer is that sometimes acupuncture feels like plucking a hair from the skin, rarely worse than that. Often the procedure is completely painless with little or no sensation being felt when the needles are inserted.

Q. Are the needles used more than once?

Absolutely NOT! All needles are sterile, single-use, and disposable. In the “old days,” needles were often sterilized using a device known as an “autoclave” which employed very high pressure and heat. Rarely is this method used today. Our needles arrive to us in sterile packages which are opened just prior to treatment. Following the treatment, all needles are placed into a disposable “Sharps” container which is eventually shipped to a controlled disposal facility for incineration.

Q. How much does it cost?

The initial visit is $95.00 which includes an extensive medical history and intake usually lasting 45-60 minutes. Then the treatment lasts another 30-45 minutes, followed by giving the new client as much literature as necessary regarding any supplements that we may have discussed during the intake. All follow-up appointments are $65.00.

Q. Will my insurance pay for acupuncture?

Many insurance companies are becoming very aware of the many benefits of acupuncture, and thus are reimbursing more and more. In addition, many “Flexible Spending Accounts” allow for acupuncture and even supplements such as vitamins and herbs. It is always best to call your specific insurance provider and ask if acupuncture is covered in your specific policy.

We do not file insurance at The Neeley Center for Health as this is a very complex task for any clinic and requires extensive training as well as time. We can however provide you with a “super bill” containing the diagnosis and treatment codes for your visits which you can submit to your insurance provider. Then, any reimbursement is made directly to you.

Q. How many treatments will be necessary for me?

This always varies from person to person and condition to condition since everyone is very unique in his or her own way. In most cases, 3-5 treatments in a 10-14 day period will allow us to make substantial progress. Then we often begin to stage the treatments further and further apart until the client is only coming in for a visit once every 4-6 weeks as necessary.

Q. What type of clothing do I wear to a treatment?

Loose-fitting clothing is best. The idea is to be as comfortable as possible. If your clothing is too tight, we offer decorative robes to wear during your treatment. In either case, you remain covered during the treatment process.

Q. What does acupuncture treat?

Acupuncture is a full system of healthcare able to treat basically any medical condition to some point. Please visit the Conditions and Disorders section of our website for a partial list of conditions we treat.

Q. Is there something special about my feet being placed in the water as opposed to some other part of my body?

There is nothing special about the feet. You just have to get skin into the bath. Using the feet is simply the easiest way to accomplish this.

Q. How long does it take to get a footbath?

It takes approximately 20 - 30 minutes to get an ionic detox footbath. While you site with your feet in a tub of water, you get to relax and listen to soft music while the footbath does all the work.

Q. Why does the water turn colors during my footbath?

The water turns colors depending on your energy state and the levels of toxicity within your body. Different colors may also give a clue as to what organs of the body are releasing toxins.

Q. Will a tub of water change color if the ionizing unit is run without my feet in it?

Yes, when a tub of water is run without anyone's feet in it, the water does turn a light straw color. This is basically caused by the impurities from the water itself.

Q. How will I feel after I have a detox footbath?

How you feel afterwards depends to some degree on your level of toxicity and on the status of your overall health. Some people will feel energized immediately while others may feel a bit of fatigue as the rate of detoxification is accelerated.

Q. Is there anything special that I need to do after my footbath?

Drinking additional water that day is helpful in flushing out the toxins.

Q. How many footbaths should I plan on doing to be effective?

For optimum results, it is recommended that you do a series of 10, skipping a day between. If this is not possible, even doing one or two a week will be beneficial.

Q. How much does a footbath cost?

Footbaths may be purchased singly for $35 each. If you want to do a series for optimum benefit, purchase a 10-pack for $200.

Q. How does RET work to relieve these symptoms?

The RET technician puts the patient into a relaxed or alpha brainwave state, which gives access to both conscious and unconscious information. Utilizing an eye-catching device, the technician induces patterns in the peripheral vision of the patient that further refine the search for the traumatic source material in visual, auditory and kinesthetic areas of the brain. The patient is then told to blink the eyes, which effectively creates an on/off electrical stimulus, intensifying and apparently zooming in on the target neurons, alternately focusing on and discharging the material laid down there.

RET simulates a condition of sleep known as rapid eye movement (REM), which happens while sleeping and is our body’s natural discharge mechanism. During REM sleep we process, clear and integrate our day’s experiences. The eyes move rapidly under the eyelids and the eyelids blink or twitch. RET simulates REM sleep with an eye-directing device moving rapidly in a neuro-linguistic pattern in front of the client’s eyes.

The peripheral vision picks this up and the brain thinks it is in REM sleep. This fast movement of the device supports the mind and body in accessing memory. The technician quickly moves the wand in various patterns to find sources of stress, watching the client’s eye movement for triggers. As the client blinks and breathes deeply, trauma trapped in the mind and body are accessed and released.

Q. Why does RET work?

According to E. Lynn Waldrip, a clinical psychologist based in San Francisco, studies show that the eyes are connected intricately with the limbic system and various storage areas of the brain, which make up the neurological pathway system. When we look up, we’re accessing visual memory or re-creation, when we look to the side we are accessing auditory data, and when we look down we are accessing feelings.
